Jane Eyre

The National Theatre – 2015

The brief: A contemporary adaptation of the classic story of one woman’s fight for freedom and fulfillment on her own terms, devised by director Sally Cookson and the company.

Jane Eyre’s spirited heroine faces life’s obstacles head-on, surviving poverty, injustice, and the discovery of bitter betrayal before taking the ultimate decision to follow her heart. The concept was inspired by a line from the script comparing Jane’s love for Rochester to a fire: ‘Don’t let love kindle your heart’
