Saint George and the Dragon
National Theatre – 2018
A folk tale for an uneasy nation, Saint George and the Dragon shows the knight coming back to the same village across the ages, with the last act set in comtemporary London. The play asks, what would Saint George make of present day Britain? How would he feel if the people didn’t need him and his ideals anymore?
We decided to dial up the comedy elements of the story, by shooting Saint George as a ‘fish out of water’ in a quintessential British dinner, baffled by the food in front of him, and ignored by the staff and customers.
