The Hungry Ghost
Bush Theatre – 2026
In this sexy horror rom-com, a queer woman ignores her mum warning not to go out on the first night of the ghost month. She secretly moves in with her girlfriend, and unwittingly invites the hungry ghost of an ancestor into both of their lives.
As the ghost starts to take over her body to taste food and sex again, her carefully constructed house of lies comes tumbling down around her.
The artwork, created with photographer Sebastian Nevols, uses a splice-repeat printing technique to elongate the tongue of actor Mei Mac, in a grotesque and cheeky nod to traditional Chinese depictions of hungry ghosts, with their long tongues hanging out.
