Bush Theatre – 2026

Founded in 1972 and located in one of London’s most culturally diverse areas, the Bush Theatre has built a reputation for discovering and championing new writing and Global Majority creatives.

For new Artistic Director Taio Lawson’s first season announcement, I worked with the Bush’s colour palette and brand typeface to create a series of ‘typographic murmurations’: shifting textual patterns based on the production’s titles, which expand and contract as they move against Western reading conventions (right to left).

The concept comes to life in the trailer created in collaboration with motion graphic designer Katie Hurst. The kinetic typography animates in hypnotic loops, to the beat of a drum soundscape.

In conjunction with the season launch, the Bush has appointed a new literary team to relaunch its unsolicited script submissions program, further solidifying its commitment to new and emerging voices.

The campaign’s press portrait, shot by Courtney Phillips, sees Artistic Director Taio Lawson and new literary leads Olivia Poglio-Nwabali and Frey Kwa Hawking seated around a table draped with a cloth repeatedly printed with the words ‘It starts here’ – a working manifesto for an institution dedicated to championing artists, risk-takers and form-forgers.
