Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo
Young Vic – 2025
In Rajiv Joseph’s satire set during the American’ occupation of Iraq in 2003, a bored GI stationed at Baghdad Zoo taunts a tiger and loses a hand. A hungry tiger gets shot down by a GI with a looted gun. Ghosts roam the war torn city, and everyone is searching for meaning, revenge, forgiveness, and a solid gold toilet seat.
The artwork, created with stock images, puts a twist on the absurd face off between the GI and the Tiger.
